Beautiful Day

I'm going to miss this time of year when it's dark on my way into work again. It has been really nice for about the last month getting to see the sunrise every morning, and seeing the clear blue sky (or at least a little blue). Now that the days are getting shorter, it's only a matter of time before that goes away and it's pitch dark again.

And I thought Michigan people were strange...

RipleyEyes.jpg
There were apparently some interesting characters at the opening of Ripley's in Times Square. Check out the photos here.

What's wrong with this?

Post a comment with the answer if you can figure out what is wrong with this picture. It took me a minute to see.

How could that truck have got where it is parked? Looks like it is stuck where it is at.

Another reason to avoid amusement parks

As if getting stuck upside down as I mentioned several days ago wasn't enough, here's another amusement park scare story. This one is much more serious.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A teenage girl has been injured in a gruesome accident at a Kentucky theme park.

Officials at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom say the 13-year-old girl's legs were severed above the ankle on the Superman Tower of Power ride.

A Sad day

Yesterday was a sad day for restaurants. The founder of one of my favorite restaurants, Bob Evans, died yesterday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Bob Evans, whose quest for quality sausage to serve the truckers who filled his 12-stool, 24-hour-a-day steakhouse in southeast Ohio led to the creation of a restaurant chain that bears his name, died Thursday, Bob Evans Farms Inc. announced. He was 89.

First Day of Summer

The first day of summer is finally here. The longest day of the year. It's actually kind of depressing, since for the next 6 months days will keep getting shorter now. It's nice that it's light before 6am, and until after 9pm. I guess that means I should enjoy it now while we have daylight.

Scared of Roller Coasters?

It's no wonder people are scared of roller coaster's when you see something like this:
300Roller.jpg

A dozen riders on a roller-coaster were left hanging upside down - 46 metres above the ground - after a power outage shut down the ride.

It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to rescue the riders using a ladder truck, said Aundrea Crary, spokeswoman for the Magic Springs & Crystal Falls amusement park in Arkansas.

It's one thing to be stuck. Being stuck upside down would suck. Here's the full article.

Michigan Drivers

I've always said people in Michigan can't drive. Here is a good example:

PAW PAW, Michigan (AP) -- A man was taken on a wild ride when his wheelchair became lodged in the grille of a semitrailer and was accidentally pushed down a highway for four miles at about 50 mph, authorities said.

I bet that was one heck of a ride. I'm impressed the wheels could even take that. Read the whole thing here.

Huge Pig Truth!

Remember the huge pig I posted a picture of several days ago? Well it turns out it IS real. What it isn't, is wild.

FRUITHURST, Ala. - The huge hog that became known as "Monster Pig" after being killed by an 11-year-old boy had another name: Fred.

Far from feral, the pig had been raised on an Alabama farm and was sold to the Lost Creek Plantation just four days before it was shot there in a 150-acre fenced area, the animal's former owner said.

Phil Blissitt told The Anniston Star in a story Friday that he bought the 6-week-old pig in December 2004 as a Christmas gift for his wife, Rhonda, and that they sold it after deciding to get rid of all the pigs at their farm.

"I just wanted the truth to be told. That wasn't a wild pig," Rhonda Blissitt said.

Phil Blissitt said he became irritated when he learned that some thought the photo of Fred was doctored.

Ultimate Stupidity

I just witnessed one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen. On my way home from work, on a fairly busy road, during rush hour, I saw someone on a motorcycle. Normally not a big deal, but this moron proceeded to jump up on the seat so he was standing, holding his arms straight out. Note that there were a line of cars in front of and behind him, and a row of cars in the incoming traffic lane (including me). The speed limit is only 40, so he wasn't going super fast, but he was keeping up with traffic, so my guess is he was doing around 30, +/- 5 mph.

Similar to how he was riding his motorcycle, I think that guy's engine is running, but nobody is at the wheel.
