Ahhh, Friday
Well Friday is finally here. This week seems to have gone quick. It helped being out of the office all day yesterday for a community service event, which I got to sleep in for and get home early from. I had softball practice last night too, with our first games coming on Sunday evening. I forgot how much I missed playing sports and stuff, I can't wait to play this weekend.
Next week should be more enjoyable than the last few, since school is out for a little bit (until May 9 when I start summer class). Things just seem like they've been really busy lately with house hunting and finals, etc. I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend at home.

House Hunt Day #5
Well Friday I looked at houses once again. Actually condo's this time. They were surprisingly much nicer than the houses I was looking at in the same area. I'm not sure how I feel about not having a yard to play around in though. I guess it would be nice now while working and going to school so I'm not as busy. At the same time, on nice weather weekends it would be nice to be able to do some stuff around too. The other thing is association fees seem like a waste. I guess for a couple years though it still gets me into my own place which I own and am building equity on.
Two of them were actually really nice too, so I'm going to look at them and 3 others on Monday. We'll see what happens...

Auto Insurance
How stupid are people? The NAACP is complaining that Detroit's auto insurance rates are too high. They have reason to complain, since Detroit is 6 times the national average and if you live in zip code 48123 you have the highest auto insurance premium on the planet. That being said, what does the NAACP expect insurance companies to do? They say that premiums should be based off of driving records and not where you live. That is retarded. Do you really think insurance companies are going to give the same premium to two people with the exact same driving record if one lives in a cornfield in Iowa compared to downtown Detroit? Think about it. They'd have to raise everyone's rates to account for the increased cost of insuring Detroit drivers for less, which would make millions of people complain instead of just thousands.
If the NAACP really wants insurance companies to lower premiums in Detroit, then they need to get people to stop stealing frickin cars.

Did you pick "cornfield in Iowa" for a reason? Coincidentally, my insurance rate here is about 1/2 of what it was in Ohio. It's nice...but all too soon, I'll be moving, and I'm sure I'll get hit with higher rates again.
I think you hit the nail on the head by asking "how stupid are people?" Some people can't always see the big picture.
I'd be pretty upset if I had to pay more on my premium because of the morons up there. I already got the moron department completly under control on my own. 3 tickets and a sporty car don't favor the old checkbook too well.
Just think 25 is right around the corner! (...that's scary)

Back to work
Well it was back to the office today. Driving to training at 7:30 the last 3 days has made me re-remember why I get up early and drive to work at 6:15 instead. Traffic sucks at 7:30. It was nice getting to sleep in, but the frustration of sitting in traffic far outweighs the benefits of sleeping later.
Almost Friday.

House Hunt Day #4
Well today was day #4 of looking at houses. My realtor is retarded so I didn't see any last week. I looked at 6 houses today. 2 were possibilities, but the rest were junk. Its getting frustrating, but I won't find anything unless i keep looking...

Evansville
this weekend I made the trip down to Evansville, IN for the first time in a long time. It was supposed to be with several other people, but ended up that everyone had something else going on. They missed a good time, not to mention that it was about 80 degrees and sunny both days. Pretty darn nice for this time of year.
This week will hopefully go fast, I'll be in Beverly Hills for three days in training. Too bad its Beverly Hills, Michigan and not California.

Best buy is my friend today
I'm going to put in a quick plug for best buy today. Last week I took in my laptop which I purchases there almost 3 years ago with the service plan again. They had to send it out to their service center of course, and gave me an estimated time of 4 weeks before I got it back. I wasn't very happy about that, but I have other computers to use so not a huge deal. Yesterday I got home from work & class to a message from the "Geek Squad" at best buy saying that they are going to replace my computer! Thats what I was hoping to hear, so now I went from a 1.5 GHz Pentium 4 to a 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 with HT, and twice as much RAM, hard drive and a DVD Burner! Not a bad deal for paying $200 for the service plan almost 3 years ago. Good investment in this case.

strange
Do you ever just wake up and feel like something is not quite right? I'm not just talking about feeling like you forgot something as you leave for work in the morning. Something just feels funny. Its like something is different from when I woke up yesterday morning. Maybe its just from uncertainty on several personal issues. Its like today I woke up and am questioning what I am doing with my life once again. I love my job, but I'm not sure how good I am at it yet since I've only been doing it about 2 months now. School is only going ok since I don't like the classes I've had so far and I can't get that motivated for it. House searching is very frustrating right now.
Only time will tell I guess, but its just another thing on the list of crap I'm not sure about for now.

Awesome weekend
What beautiful weather this past 4 days or so! I was down in Indianapolis for the weekend, and it was almost 80 Saturday and just over 80 yesterday. Nice and sunny too, perfect to go to the Indy Zoo on Saturday (which is apparently what every other person in Indy thought since the place was packed).
I was actually kinda disappointed with the zoo though. The polar bears were cool, and a few monkey type animals, but not much else too exciting.
Now that the weather is warmer it just seems harder to go back to work on Mondays, or any day for that matter, and I even like my job. I can't imagine what it would be like trying to go if you hate it.

Looks like spring
Its finally starting to feel like spring around here. Sunny days, warmer weather, and things are even greening up a bit. Now if I only had a house already to do some outside work on, things would be great. For now I'll just look out the window here at work and see how nice and sunny it is, and wait for time to go home.

House Hunt Day #3
Well I've officially decided that housing sucks in Michigan. The houses I looked at tonight were all worthless. Thats 15 houses now with 1 that I liked (which already sold). Only one other house had a floor plan that I really liked and that one I didn't like the area. Time to re-evaluate buying a house.

Big Oops
Ever just have a day where you can tell something is going to go wrong? I just made a big "oops" at work that could have deleted everything on my computer, or at least forced a re-format which would then delete everything.
While writing a program at work today, I made a dumb mistake. Because I couldn't find a good way to delete all files in a folder in C++, I used an old DOS command "deltree". It works fine, but is dangerous because it deletes all files and folders under the directory you specify. Well the directory I specified happened to be a constant at the top of my program, so I assumed it would always be there (mistake #1). I was working on converting to using a .ini file instead of constants, and had the constants commented out while I tested my INI functions (mistake #2). First test of the program it brought up a command window that said it was deleting files in C:\! Apparently the .ini file didn't work yet and so the variable that holds the path to pass to deltree was equal to "" instead of its directory, which caused the program to start deleting all files under c:\. Luckily I stopped it before it got very far, but it still made my computer so it would not boot into windows.
Microsoft however did one thing right with Windows XP. All I had to do with go to my co-workers XP machine and copy three files (NTldr, Netdetect.com, & boot.ini) onto a floppy and boot up with the floppy in, and now I'm back in business. A potential disaster avoided (kind of).
All of this could have been avoided if I would have put this one line of code before the deltree statement however (mistake #3).

PETER
Let me ask you something. When you come in on Mondays, and you're not
feeling too well, does anybody ever come up to you and say "sounds like
someone's got a case of the Mondays"?
LAWRENCE
No. No, man, shit, no, man. I believe you get your ass kicked for
sayin' something like that, man.
"sounds like someone's got a case of the Mondays"
MICHAEL BOLTON
Ok! Ok! I must have, I must have put a decimal point in the wrong place
or something. Shit. I always do that. I always mess up some mundane
detail.
darkness
Well for a few days anyway, its back to being dark in the morning thanks to daylight savings time. I'd also like to blame the fact that I didn't finish my project on daylight savings time, since this was the shortest weekend of the year.

April Fools
So apparently not many people caught it. I've had a few people call or IM me about my entry yesterday to see how things are going. Everything in that was a lie, it was my April Fool's entry. I thought most people would figure it out if they looked at the links below to see other April Fool's story. Work is actually great, school is good. I definitely didn't get denied a mortgage, never got into an accident, and Mico is as lively as ever.

I Give up
Work isn't going very well. I'm at risk for flunking out of school. I got denied for a mortgage. I think my cat Mico is dying. I got into an accident today on the way to work. What a day...
