Bank Overdraft fees

How dumb are people these days? I hear more stories from my wife about people having thousands of dollars in bank account over-draft fees than I can even count. Its really not that difficult. If you have a bank account, you have a set amount of money in it available to you (just like if you have a fistful of cash). If you use more than that amount, you have over-drafted your account and will get charged. Its simple addition and subtraction, add the credits and subtract the debits. The funny thing is, people think the bank is screwing them. Granted, the fees may be high, BUT YOU CANNOT SPEND MONEY YOU DON'T HAVE! Get a credit card if you want to charge up a storm without money behind it.

I saw articles like this in the last few days that made me think about this:
Debit cards fuel overdraft outrages

Good and Bad

I try not to get too personal on here generally, but sometimes there's just things that need to be said. I found out yesterday that my dad has cancer. Not exactly the phone call you ever want to receive from anyone. My parents tell me that the surgery he had last week got it all (as far as they know), but he will still have to undergo a form of chemotherapy for 6 weeks. It sounds to me like my parents are sugar-coating it for me, but maybe not. They made it sound like its really not a big deal, but just hearing the word "cancer" makes it hard to think of anything else. I guess time will tell...

Easily Amused

Maybe I'm just very easily amused, but this site seems to have the potential to provide me with hours of entertainment. I have barely used it so far, but it at least looks interesting. Try it out.

It's about time!

Finally, Peyton Manning and the Colts have made it to the Super Bowl. In what turned out to be a heck of a football game last night, (and the biggest comeback in Conference championship history), the Colts beat Tom Brady and the Patriots to go to the big dance. Not to say I told you so or anything, but I was saying all week I felt that the Colts would win.

Also going are the Chicago Bears for the first time in 2 decades. I'm a Bears fan by marriage, so I guess I have to somewhat root for them, but truth is I don't really care which team wins. I would like to see Manning have a Super Bowl ring, but Urlacher and the Bears deserve one too. We'll see what happens.

Oh, and I almost forgot. Hopefully this will shut people up about Tom Brady for a while (at least until next season).

Gas Prices

Its pretty hard to tell from this picture (what do you expect, its taken out of my truck window with my stupid camera phone), but gas is all the way down to $1.79 now.

With a 35 gallon tank, that $.40/gallon cheaper than it was before Christmas saves me $12 or so everytime I fill up. Not too shabby. I'm sure they won't stay this low, but its nice while it lasts.

Last Holiday

I just realized the sad reality of this past Monday's MLK Holiday. It is the last actual holiday from work until Good Friday on April 6. Thats 82 days away for those of you who are counting (not that I am). By that time, I'll be 3 weeks away from the end of the semester and damn close to graduating. That makes it sound even longer.

Comments

I don't get either of those days off. That means I have to go from New Years day until Memorial Day.
How many days is that?

Later,
Dut

Nice long weekend

After a 4-day weekend, its back to work this morning. The funny thing is, I think I feel more rested now than I was after the almost 2 weeks around Christmas. I guess I finally got to finish some of the things around the house that I've been wanting to get done, so it feels good to cross things off of my list.

It's finally starting to feel like winter here too. We had a small ice storm yesterday, we'll see what the roads are like this morning, hopefully not too bad, although they're calling for more snow and ice.

If I hear one more word about Tom Brady and how good he is I'm going to scream. I really wish they would have lost on Sunday.

Ohio State

OK, so Ohio State got smoked 41-14 last night by Florida in the National Title Game. Now I am even more glad than before that Michigan lost, so that there is no chance for a shared national title or anything stupid. I was shocked OSU lost, they looked terrible though. Maybe USC-Florida would have been a better game?

Showering

Everyone knows that women take longer to shower than men. This is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. I can't take credit for it, I don't know where it originally came from, but here it is:

HOW MEN AND WOMEN SHOWER DIFFERENTLY . . .

How To Shower Like a Woman

Take off clothing and place it in sectioned laundry hamper according to lights and darks. Walk to bathroom wearing long dressing gown. If you see husband along the way, cover up any exposed areas. Look at your womanly physique in the mirror - make mental note to do more sit-ups/leg-lifts, etc. Get in the shower. Use face cloth, arm cloth, leg cloth, long loofah, wide loofah and pumice stone. Wash your hair once with cucumber and sage shampoo with 43 added vitamins. Wash your hair again to make sure it's clean. Condition your hair with grapefruit mint conditioner. Wash your face with crushed apricot facial scrub for 10 minutes until red. Wash entire rest of body with ginger nut and jaffa cake body wash. Rinse conditioner off hair. Shave armpits and legs. Turn off shower. Squeegee off all wet surfaces in shower. Spray mold spots with Tilex. Get out of shower. Dry with towel the size of a small country. Wrap hair in super absorbent towel. Return to bedroom wearing long dressing gown and towel on head. If you see husband along the way, cover up any exposed areas.

How To Shower Like a Man

Take off clothes while sitting on the edge of the bed and leave them in a pile. Walk naked to the bathroom. If you see wife along the way, shake wiener at her making the 'woo-woo' sound. Look at your manly physique in the mirror. Admire the size of your wiener and scratch your butt. Get in the shower. Wash your face. Wash your armpits. Blow your nose in your hands and let the water rinse them off. Fart and laugh at how loud it sounds in the shower. Spend majority of time washing privates and surrounding area. Wash your butt, leaving those coarse butt hairs stuck on the soap. Wash your hair. Make a Shampoo Mohawk. Pee. Rinse off and get out of shower. Partially dry off. Fail to notice water on floor because curtain was hanging out of tub the whole time. Admire wiener size in mirror again. Leave shower curtain open, wet mat on floor, light and fan on. Return to bedroom with towel around waist. If you pass wife, pull off towel, shake wiener at her and make the 'woo-woo' sound again. Throw wet towel on bed.

Gas Prices

Driving the same way to work everyday, its easy to see how gas prices change at a particular station from day to day. One station in particular is disturbing however. Every Tuesday morning, it is ridiculously cheap compared to other area stations (it was $2.15 yesterday, which is similar to the stations in the "hood" that I stop at which are always cheaper). Today, it was $2.35, yet all the other stations remained unchanged, or maybe $.01 difference. That seems to be the trend recently, is it goes way cheap, then way expensive. How/why the heck do they do that? I see people paying it when its so high too? More than likely on the way home today, or at least by tomorrow morning, it will be back down to around $2.20 or so. We'll see...

Its a Happy New year

Happy New Year!

It just got a little happier since it is now final that USC beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl. That should shut up all of the people up here who thought they deserved to be in the National Title Game against Ohio State. Michigan proved today that they weren't worthy of the national title game, but made me wonder if it should be USC playing against Ohio State...
