I'm an Uncle!!

Congratulations to my sister and her husband, who had a healthy baby boy at 8:33 am this morning. I only wish they lived closer than 800 miles away so I could see the little guy soon.

It finally happened

Well I'm calm enough about it now that I can admit it. Tuesday, I finally received my first speeding ticket. Not something i'm proud of, or too happy about. I was about a half mile from home when it happened to. I got clocked at 39 in a 25. Damn residential areas. The cop did however give me a ticket for "impeding traffic" rather than speeding (same amount of a fine), so that it doesn't stay on my record or put points on my license.

The worst part is, had just been thinking that I was going too fast and I was lucky there weren't any cops clocking there because I've seen them before. Then I see him in my rearview. Lucky me.

Everybody thinks they are "entitled" to something

Why does everbody think they are "entitled" to something. I just read that several Ford retirees are suing Ford for cutting their health care benefits.

According to the Detroit Free Press:

Three Ford Motor Co. hourly retirees have filed a lawsuit asking a U.S. District Court in Detroit to stop the automaker from forcing retired UAW autoworkers to pay for more of their health care costs.

In the lawsuit filed Tuesday, the retirees said that Ford has no right to unilaterally cut their benefits, and the UAW did not have the authority to negotiate any changes in their health care plans.

Active hourly Ford workers last month narrowly approved a deal that will cost retirees more out-of-pocket expenses for health care, but save Ford an estimated $850 million annually.

What these idiots haven't thought about is that if Ford and other companies such as GM do not take these measures, the companies could potentially disappear and then they would have no health care help and no pension, not to mention the millions that would lose jobs as a result. But they're only concerned with having to pay slightly more out of pocket when they practically have a free ride now. Get a clue.

Detroit's not so bad...

Detroit gets a bad rap for being dangerous and having high crime rates. While some of it is well deserved, according to this list of Crime Index which takes population into account, its #37, not #2. (And by the way, where I live is #18 on the safest cities list, and its only 30 miles away from Detroit.)

There's all sorts of neat statistics here for you weird people like me who enjoy numbers.

Space Junk?

You know things are getting bad when they are complaining that there is too much junk in outer space.

Space is filling up with trash, and it's time to clean it up, NASA experts warn.

A growing amount of human-made debris—from rocket stages and obsolete satellites to blown-off hatches and insulation—is circling the Earth.

I have some stuff I want to get rid of (couch, boxes, cat [just kidding]), but I guess I can't throw it into outer space anymore. That means its back to stuffing it in the closet...

Full article here.

Too many meetings is bad for you...

According to an article I read this morning:

1. The more meetings one has to attend, the greater the negative effects; and

2. The more time one spends in meetings, the greater the negative effects.

On the Way

OK, so I lied and I still don't have the software site ready. Working on wedding stuff the whole weekend will do that to you (not that I'm at all complaining). It will be up eventually, just need to find time to get it organized. I need to find a place to put up the iTunes alarm other than my site, so if anybody knows of a place, let me know.

This coming weekend I will make a trip to the Detroit Auto Show, so there will be pictures posted before too long of that as well.

Stay Tuned...

New Page

Well I've finally done it. I created a new site within pipesnetwork.com for the software I've written and will write.

The initial offerings will include:

iTunesAlarm
Pretty self explanatory, a sleep timer and alarm program for iTunes

WinampAlarm
Sleep Timer and alarm program for Winamp

PortTool
A network utility I wrote to connect to other computers or receive incoming connections via UDP or TCP.
It will even send files to other computers (assuming the other computer has portTool running as well).

PPC-FTP
An FTP client written in .NET for Pocket PC's.

FileRename
A utility to massively rename batches of files. Allows modification of file date/times as well.

FileDate
A sub program of FIlerename, it allows complete control of modifying the date and timestamps of files.

All available (Soon) right here.

Be Careful what you send...

U.S. Postal Service officials call it the "sanctity of the seal" -- the people's trust that when someone drops a letter in a mailbox, it will arrive unopened at its destination.

But that isn't always the case.

Two metro Detroit postal workers -- one a mail carrier in the Northville area and the other who worked at a mail processing center in Troy -- were accused last week of violating that trust, charged in federal criminal complaints with stealing cash and gift cards from mail.

That Important?

People are getting a little ridiculous with talking on cell phones. I was in the restroom earlier and somebody was talking on the phone while taking a dump. IN A PUBLIC RESTROOM!!! Who the hell is that important that you have to talk to them while you're on the crapper? Talking while driving like an idiot in heavy traffic is bad enough, but talking while you're pooping is just wrong. What do you tell the person on the other line when they hear the flushing or splashes?

You don't think anyone has ever taken a crap when you were on the other end of the phone??? You should consider yourself very important.

Not that I do this, but next time you walk into a public restroom and there is a giant turd floating in the pot when you walk in, think of the guy you described (I DO NOT do that)....maybe in the comfort of my own home, but not in public.

Did you know...

that 1 in 18 people has a 3rd nipple?

that you are 10 times more likely to be bitten by a human than a rat?

that 1 in 10 Europeans is conceived in an Ikea bed?

that you are 176 times more likely to be murdered than win the national lottery?

These facts and more are all here.

New Lincolns

Wow, its about time. I knew Lincoln was going to debut several cars at this year's autoshow, but AutoBlog.com already has some pictures and press releases of them up.

Lincoln MKS

Lincoln MKX

I may be slightly partial to these vehicles, but the new Ford Edge is pretty impressive too. Its the Ford version of the Lincoln MKX.

Anybody who runs Windows needs to run Windows Update immediately to patch a flaw that Microsoft finally released a fix for yesterday. The flaw basically allows malicious code to be ran on your computer by simply viewing a webpage or email with an infected picture.

iTunes Alarm

I'm finally almost finished with my most recent project, the iTunes Alarm Clock (and sleep timer). Does anybody that uses iTunes have any suggestions for it? I will have it up for download as soon as I add a few things. It will be exteremely similar to my winamp sleep alarm program available on winamp's website (Available here).

Actually I've made some changes since that version, so maybe if I get really ambitious I'll put my new version up there as well.

Working for the first time since last year

Well today marks back to work, which means I am sitting at my desk at 6:30 am right now instead of still laying in bed. The good news is, that means I still have a job and will be getting paid. The bad news is, I'm not still laying in bed.

Happy Monday.
