Don't Ask Jeeves
Ask Jeeves is going away. Well not completely, just Jeeves is leaving. The company was bought out and the new owners apparently don't like having the english butler Jeeves as their mascot anymore. I guess it will now just be ask. Thats dumb, I haven't used the search engine in a long time, but I used to ask jeeves for some advice every now and then.

Armed Dolphins
Is this for real? Is our military really using dolphins as a source of defense? I know they're supposed to be smart, but c'mon...

Fridays Off
Its nice to have Fridays off. Its too bad that school is my reasoning for doing it however. I have a 3 hour lecture to watch today, and a homework assignment to do. Doesn't that sound like a fun Friday? I guess it still beats being at work...

AutoBlog Ipod Nano Contest
I ran across this article today where you can enter to win an Ipod Nano, so that is what the nature of this blog is. Below are 10 articles on the AutoBlog site that I have enjoyed.

This article is talking about how Ford will build more hybrids over the next few years, which is definitely something they need to do.
http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000037059782/
GM says that hybrids will lose money. How do they know since they don't even have one on the market yet? Developing the first one will be expensive, but I would think once they get hte ball rolling, it would be profitable...
http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000617059805/
I never would have guessed that the HHR would be popular. Seems too late to the market for me, but apparently not.
http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000427059780/
Another article about worries with Hybrids. People who are getting to accidents where there is a 300 volt battery should be a little nervous.

A "mini" wagon? Isn't that kind of an oxymoron?
http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000470059719/
No profit for Ford? You know something is going wrong when one of the great American institutions is not able to turn a profit, even when the industry is tough like it is...
http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000733059574/
I've always wondered what the point of having GMC and Chevrolet is. They are the same things. Whats the point?
http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000810059621/
This is partly whats wrong with American auto-makers. They keep re-doing the big SUV's that USED to make money. With gas approaching $3 a gallon, most people will be shying away from these if they do much driving.
http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000400059427/
What will they think of next for hybrids? A hybrid forklift? That seems kind of silly.

I just recently drove by the plant outside of Chicago that makes the Neon. I can remember as a kid seeing the billboards bragging a starting price under $10k, and all it said was "hi".

Whats wrong with Detroit?
If anybody has ever wondered what is wrong with Detroit (as I often have), here is one thing.
Saddam Hussein has collected many things in his 24-year reign -- palaces, enemies. And the key to the city of Detroit.

Another weekend, another wedding
Well this weekend was the last of my friend's weddings for now. He's off in Jamaica with his new wife. I'm stuck up here in Michigan going to work tomorrow. At least I'm not alone.
I love weddings though, we had a blast. Congrats to the newly weds! Pictures will be up shortly.

The mystery is solved
I've been wondering for a little while why Cold Stone Creamery suddenly didn't have Cake Batter ice cream any more. Now I know why....
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- July 1, 2005 -- Cold Stone Creamery together with the FDA are notifying the public that products containing "cake batter" ice cream sold at Cold Stone Creamery stores may be associated with outbreaks of Salmonella Typhimurium infection in four states. As a precautionary measure, Cold Stone Creamery was quick to respond and is voluntarily removing all cake batter products from all of its stores throughout the country. Consumers who may have purchased take-home cake batter products should not eat them but return it to the store for a full refund.

Cashing in your coins
Lots of people have a jar they throw all their coins in. The problem I've found is that a lot of banks don't have the counters anymore, so you're forced to either roll them yourself (no way!), or pay the 8.9% fee that the CoinStar machines at various supermarkets and stores take out of your change. That is, until now. Now you can convert your coins into an amazon.com gift certificate and CoinStar will waive the 8.9% fee, according to this article anyway. I guess if you're planning on spending it or buying something you end up with more money, but then it goes right out the window.

First day of school
Well today is officially my first day of the Fall Sememester of school. Its not the same excitement as starting at Purdue in the Fall though. Its just too different not living on campus surrounded by football and the changing leaves. Not to mention working full time and only taking 2 classes now compared to full-time student then. Mondays will be long days for the next 3 months, but thats ok, gotta tough it out.

Last weekend
Well it Sunday morning, and I just now realized this. Today is my last day of freedom until almost Christmas, since classes officially start for me tomorrow. I guess it will be good to be a little busier again, and it will be easier since I won't be driving on so many weekend trips, but I still will miss the free time. Taking 2 classes could be interesting...

Get fired, win cruise
Here is a sad story. A computer engineer was fired for eating leftover pizza that was from another department at work. Then he submitted his story to a web contest for the silliest firing, which he won.
The reward: a free Caribbean cruise that will include passengers famously fired by Donald Trump on his popular TV show, "The Apprentice."
Not to shabby. Hope the pizza was good though, I love pizza, but I'm not sure I'd want to get fired so I could eat it.

Well its official. I am no longer alone up in MIchigan, thanks to a special someone who moved up here to be close to me. Its still hard to believe that somebody can feel that strong for me that they'd move 300 miles away for me.

Short Long Weekend
Thats what its going to be for me, a short long weekend. Short because I'll be driving about 1,000 miles in the 3 days. Long because thats a long trip, and its 3 days. Its one of those trips where I want to go see relatives (especially grandparents since you never know how long they'll be around), but at the same time its a 3-day weekend where I could be sitting around relaxing one last time before classes start. Gas prices alone are border-line reason enough to stay home, but not quite. If it hits $4, that would make me stay home. I haven't been up there in a year, so I figure if not now, when?
Hope everyone has safe travels if they are going anywhere, I'll be leaving about 2:00 am on Saturday so I don't get stuck in Chicago traffic. Doesn't that sound like a fun weekend?
